Isolation hurts the health of many seniors, especially those with memory issues like Alzheimer’s or dementia.

One study suggests that extended isolation causes health risks equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. More than 8 million adults aged 50+ are affected by isolation, that’s 1 in 5. Adults with cognitive decline, limited mobility or declining health are especially vulnerable.

Staying engaged with other people is key! Seniors want to stay connected. When asked which they would rather give up for a week, 79% of seniors said they would rather give up watching TV than talking with their friends and family.
